This P47 Thunderbolt model was built from a Topflight Kit. It's span is 86" and the motor is a Zenoa 38cc petrol. The retracts are Robarts and she weighs in at 23lbs.The model is after the full sized  P47 called "Ace's High" from WW2. Here is a photographic record of her maiden test flight. Ivan is accompanied by Chris, acting as his flight mechanic for the session. As to be expected the flight passed without incident due to Ivan's meticulous setting up procedures. As an observer, the model flew well with no unexpected dramatic situations. Once down, she was carted away for inspection and any slight trimming Ivan wanted to do. All in all, a very nice model, flown in a true scale manner, and another for his "Hangar"of fighters.

Alan K - Saturday 22nd May 2010

Here's a couple of pictures of the latest to leave Allan Knight's workshop. (Its a before and after job)

First one shows a brand spanking new YT Me109E ARTF in its "out-of-the-box" finish

Second shows the model after its been customised and weathered.

The Mods were to add scale wheels and oleo's and better door's than the ones in the kit. Next, I built a working drop tank release assembly and re worked a  more scale rear wheel. On the top side I've added four machine guns and radio mask.

The weathering was first to stipple silver paint to simulate chipped paint work on the L/E wing walk ways canopy etc.
Next was to create panel lines and hatches, which was done using coloured chalks.A bit of work around the exhausts to finish the job.

The last thing to do now is mask the canopy and spray the whole model with a matt clear coat to seal the chalks etc.
So a little imagination and a few hours can turn an everyday warbird into something much more realistic.

This stunning 1/3 scale Fokker D VII  World War l.

It is a Balsa USA kit. Built using balsa, birch plywood, lite plywood and basswood. Covered in cloth.

The engine is a 3W 75cc petrol. Paul explained that it has taken over 2 years to build (of & on).
The biggest problem encountered was it's SIZE. To big to go through doorways!!

Kernel's briefing - "Now Helmut, listen carefully. Strictly no low flying over de Blitish utilities!"

All down safely in four pieces - This is the clipped wing version.
