New British Gas Four-Stroke Engine

THE DAVENTRY 4 STROKE 54cc PETROL ENGINE

The DS4 is a British made 4 stroke engine designed for large scale models. It is typically more suited to

swinging larger propellers with higher pitches at lower rpm. It is not designed for the higher revs associated

with a typical 2 stroke engine of a similar size.

This design gives a unique realistic sound quality and smooth running like no other. It can be easily silenced

to be extremely quiet if required.  Turn up the volume and click on picture above!

As requested a British Royal Air Force pilot flies up to the back door of a

C-130 (Hercules) for a photo op.

He radios, "How much closer do you want me?"

They radio, "How much closer can you get?"

Pilot Radios. "Close enough?"

I think this proves that British fighter pilots are

still as good as any other fighter pilots in the world!!!    Thank you Iain.

Step back in time with the oldest Boeing still flying
85 YEAR OLD BOEING AIRLINER RESTORED

The airplane is in Spokane, WA, and is the oldest airworthy Boeing in the World.

After eight years of repair and rebuilding and 8,000 hours of toil the Boeing 40C rolled out last winter as a finished airplane.  They had to wait a few weeks for the snow to melt to fly this baby.  They received their Standard Airworthiness Certificate from the FAA and completed the  engine pre-oil and fuel flow tests for the first of the  taxi tests.

Facts for the Boeing 40 project:

The airplane weighs 4,080 lbs empty, has a gross weight of  6,075 lbs.  It is 34 feet long and 13 feet tall  with a wingspan of over 44  feet.

Wing loading is 10 lbs per sq ft and power loading is 10 Pounds per HP.  The wings have 33,000 individual parts in them.

It should cruise at 115 mph using 28 GPH, and 32 GPH at 120  mph.  It carries 120 gallons of fuel in three tanks.

Over 221 gallons of dope/reducer and 120  yards of 102 ceconite fabric; twelve gallons of polyurethane paint for the sheet metal; and three-hundred-and-fifty two-inch brushes were used to apply six gallons of West Systems epoxy.

One-hundred-eighty-one rolls of paper towels were needed for cleanup.

There were a total of 62 volunteers who worked on the project to some degree.  Twenty-one of the volunteers did a significant amount of the work, and nine of the volunteers worked continuously during the eight-year project.

Thanks Stuart.

KLASS KOTE UK NEWS

Hi All

I have been on holiday for the past few days busying myself with cleaning up the Hangar getting ready for Summer.

As always the "trouble & strife" ropes me into other odd jobs like cleaning out the Conservatory and the Garage  - ok most of it is my junk - Hmmm - so much for a break

The guys at YT International are cracking on with building the Lavochkin (LA 7) for me - yep I can just hear you say "you lazy blighter" errr ok I can't justify myself on this one.

We will be fitting the JC EVO II 28cc Petrol Engine into the 50 size model with a XOAR 18 X 8 WW2 Prop or maybe even XOAR 3 Blade Prop. painted in Klass Kote Satin Black. Although the XOAR advertises a WW2 3 Blade painted prop,  I don't think they are available just yet.

Just waiting on a Spinner for the Lavochkin from matey Steve at Bob's Hobby Centre in Orlando to send it over with some other bit and bobs.

Roy has been playing with the engine making sure it is well run in before putting it into thje model. Just a quick on on this guys, please use a good quality two stroke oil we recommend Castrol TT Two Stroke Oil, you won't regret it.

If the Lavochkin is not turned in a "Lawn Dart" before the Shows it will be featured by the YT Display Team or at least when one of the YT guys show me how to bring it back without ripping out the under carriage.

Apparently the Lavochkin is a "Peach" to fly,  very gentle and will land at walking speed -  he says with his finger crossed :-)

I have been flying the Arenaline 90 for the past couple of seasons a really easy model to fly -  until I tried to turn it on landing at low level with a dead stick, resulting in a tip stall - what a numpty.

Once I have got my confidence back and had a few goes the sticks - I have a YT  Bf 109 to fly, it is the old version with Solartex Wings  and a YT Hawker Hurricane I inherited from one of the guys at the Club which I sprayed in RAF Desert Colours with South African Insignia -  so lots of fun.

The Shopping Cart

Just a quick word on the Shopping Cart, if you happen to go to an item - for example the XOAR Props and it says "Out of Stock" that is not neceassily the case, it depends what Item is selected by default  when you open the page it may only be that item

Open the drop list and you will see exactly what is in stock and what is not. I do my best to keep it up to date as possible. If something is out of stock - drop me an email or call me to find out when it will be next in.

Articles

Some of you very kindly offered to write articles for the Newsletter please feel free to do so. It maybe a trick you have discovered, a Review or even advertise your Local Fly In whatever.

It does not have to be biased to toward anything I sell, hey this a his hobby I am not religous about my products - I know I sell top quality stuff - can I help it if I am right? Just kidding. We are all here to learn most of all me.

Anyway have fun reading the rest of the Newsletter - I hope you enjoy it.

1/5th Scale BOB SWEENEY NOW FULL BODY

Bob Sweeney 1/5th Scale Pilot has been upgraded to a Full Body Pilot.

Robert Sweeney holding a minitature of himself

Robert "Bob" Sweeney served as a fighter pilot in the 79th Fighter Group, of the 12 Mediterranean Air Force in Italy during 1944-45.

He started his combat career flying P-40s and quickly transitioned to the P-47D. All of his combat missions were the most dangerous - ground attack - which Bob and the P-47 excelled.

He flew 62 combat missions and was awarded two Air Medals. He then returned to Salisbury, Missouri and resumed a successful business career and raised a family. He tried civilian flying after the war, but found it just didn't measure up to roaring through the skies in the P-47. Bob is now 87 years young, playing golf and occasionally driving his immaculate Stingray Corvette - once a fighter pilot, always a fighter pilot!

If Lyle clicks his ruby slippers in Kansas I will have new stock here next week

Can you identify these three friendly aircraft?

Is this really folklore?
The religious festival of Candlemas falls in the ecclesiastical calendar, 40 days after the birth
of Jesus. It is known as such because it is the day all church candles are blessed. It is also a time when the snowdrops scattered in the shadow of the woodland trees look like nature's deliberate attempt to mark the occasion with the ghostly gleam of flowers echoing the illuminating candles.

With the weather playing a major part in our outdoor enjoyment this folklore rhyme may provide a forecasting guide to what we may expect for February.

"If Candlemas dawns fair and bright
Winter will have another flight.
If Candlemas brings cloud and rain
Winter won't come again".

Time will tell and we shall see!

NASA reveals visions for a future airliner
By Stephen Trimble

NASA has unveiled concepts for a next-generation widebody airliner that would enter service in 2025 and deliver dramatic reductions in fuel and noise emissions.  The design concepts reveal both two-engine and three-engine versions of the Boeing hybrid wing-body, a Northrop Grumman concept modelled closely on the Scaled Composites White Knight and a Lockheed Martin design featuring a box wing and twin, tail-mounted engines.

NASA has awarded contacts for all three companies to further investigate the unconventional designs. The goal is to develop a single concept into a new X-plane called the "XVT" after 2015, although funding for a flight demonstration is uncertain.
