    Frequently Asked Questions ?

Q: Do I need to be a member of KLAMC to fly at Roydon or Wootton Marsh Flying Fields?

A: Yes, the flying fields are open to members only and you will also need to join the British Model Flying Association. (Click on link above) You can also check BMFA membership fees here.

Q: When can I fly?

A: You can fly any day of the week - weather permitting - dawn to dusk!. However you will require an BMFA  'A' Certificate. If you are a beginner you will need a 'Buddy' with a 'B' Certificate. Never fly alone! All juniors must be accompanied by a parent.

Q: Are there any silly rules and regulations?

A: Yes there are rules and regulations - mainly to protect yourself and others from very dangerous flying missiles!

Q: Is there any training given?

A: Yes, training is offered free of charge for flying fixed wing aircraft models on Tuesday evenings from 1st May at the Wootton Marsh site.  Click here -  Flying Field Location   Tuition is not offered for helicopter training.

Q: Are there any organised events?

A: Besides basic training for the BMFA certificate the club organises Fly-in days, Model of the Year Competition, Trips to National Events & Club Nights.

Q: How can I join?

A: If you are interested, try to attend the Roydon site on a calm fine day. Weekends are the best, especially in good weather.  If the gates are open then you will find some people flying.  Talk to them and ask what it's all about. If you are still keen then request an application form, complete it and send it to the Club Membership Secretary.

Q: Is it an expensive hobby?

A: Yes, when starting out. You will require a basic trainer aircraft, a transmitter, an engine, servos, batteries, fuel, etc. In total, around £250.00 for the basics. It is an addictive hobby but very rewarding!
